  5. Calcination: The precipitated aluminum hydroxide is then washed and heated to a very high temperature (over 1,000°C) in rotary kilns or fluidized bed calciners. This process removes water molecules, transforming the aluminum hydroxide into anhydrous alumina (Al₂O₃), a white, powdery substance.
